Posted on 23 March 2009 Chargecrest Ltd has become the 10th National company to be registered under the Railway Safety Accreditation Scheme (RSAS).
The Scheme (Set up in 2004) allows companies and their staff involved in railway security to be accredited by the police, ensuring the provision of well trained and vetted staff for railway security operations.
Individuals accreded under the scheme have a number of roles and can exercise a range of powers, including issuing Penalty Notices for Disorder for anti-social behaviour (public order offences) and railway trepass.
"To be accredited, Chargecrest have shown that they have the management skills and procedures in place to deliver a high quality service" commented Cheif Inspector Gary Clark from BTP`s Comlementary Policing Section. "Accredited persons are a welcome enhancement to Security on the railway network and work closely with police. They help rail companies and police in many ways, from dealing with low level problems, to providing intelligence and a reassuring visible presence"
Chargecrest is now in a position to expand it`s rail related activities. as it does so, individual staff will undergoapproved training to gain individual accreditation.
"at the moment we mostly offer site security and key holding services, but we are keen to expand, in particular looking at providing customer facing services. We see the scheme as a way forward and hope it will open up doors and opportunities for us" Cliff Mills (Managing Director)
The Railway Safety Accreditation Scheme complements the work of regular police, volunteer Special Constables and Police Community Support Officers.
